Have you ever felt disappointed, frustrated or angry when you haven’t achieved a goal?
Or have you had the experience of reaching a goal, only for it to feel meaningless and make you wonder why you put so much time and effort into its pursuit?
Both outcomes can lead to you becoming disillusioned with goal setting.
You will only avoid these pitfalls if you adopt a new and counter intuitive mindset.
You have to understand that it’s not about the goal.
By that, I mean narrowly focusing on the achievement of your goal shuts you off from its larger purpose.
Rather than obsessing over reaching your goal, turn your attention instead to the person you become as you pursue it. Start recognising the habits, behaviours, skills and knowledge you develop as you work towards your goal.
This will soften the blow if you don’t achieve it and lessen the likelihood of feeling dissatisfied if you do.
With that in mind, your challenge now is to brainstorm all the goals you want to achieve.
Get whatever you need to capture your ideas. Are you ready? You have five minutes to brainstorm. Your time starts now.
After you finish brainstorming your goals, post them in a comment here or on Advantage Education’s Facebook page.
Any likes and shares are also appreciated as they help to spread this post to a wider audience.
I will take you through an activity in my next post that will help you fine tune your goals and get you working towards them.
For now though, go and have a great life.
